Becoming a Christian

Welcome! Whether you’ve stumbled upon this page by chance, or we’ve connected during one of my speaking engagements, in a personal conversation, or through something I’ve written, I’m glad you’re here. Thank you for taking the time to explore more about Christianity via this page.

If you’ve been exploring faith for some time, or if something in our interaction or on this website stirred a curiosity within you, I invite you to delve deeper. God often uses moments like these to draw us toward Himself.

The truth is, all of us experience the brokenness of life - the weight of our mistakes, the pain of our past, and the ache of a world that isn’t as it should be. The Bible calls this “sin”, and it separates us from the life God intended. But the good news is breathtaking: God, in His love, offers forgiveness, freedom, and a new beginning through His Son, Jesus Christ. Jesus died on the cross, taking the penalty for our sin, and rose again so that we could receive new life - life with God now, and life with Him forever.

My hope and prayer is that you will come to know Jesus as your Lord and Saviour and begin a journey with Him that transforms everything.

Following Jesus isn’t just a one‑time decision - it’s a lifelong, life‑giving journey. It’s discovering the depth of God’s love for you, stepping into the purpose He created you for, and experiencing a hope, peace, and joy that can carry you through every season of life.

Understanding what it means to be a Christian

  • Your identity, meaning, and purpose are ultimately found in Him. God loves you deeply and desires a personal relationship with you.

For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life - John 3:16

The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full - John 10:10

  • Every one of us has turned away from God’s ways, and this brokenness affects our lives and our world. We cannot fix this separation on our own.

For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God - Romans 3:23

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord - Romans 6:23

  • Jesus came to rescue us. Through His death on the cross and His resurrection, He made a way for us to be forgiven and restored to a right relationship with God.

Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” - John 14:6

But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us - Romans 5:8

  • Becoming a Christian isn’t about trying harder or being “good enough”. It’s about trusting Jesus to forgive your sins and choosing to follow Him with your life.

Yet to all who received Him, to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God - John 1:12

Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me - Revelation 3:20

  • When you receive Jesus, God gives you His Spirit to empower you, transform you, and help you live out His will. You begin a new life with God, and He begins a beautiful work in you that continues day by day.

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! - 2 Corinthians 5:17

For it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfil his good purpose - Philippians 2:13

God, out of sheer love, created human beings; we were made to know God, love God, enjoy God, and glorify God! But because of disobedience, we separated ourselves from God, introducing brokenness and suffering into the world. The Gospel is the good news that, despite humanity’s rebellion, God offers restoration through Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection. By receiving God’s grace through repentance from sin and faith in Jesus as Lord and Saviour, we make peace with God and we experience forgiveness - and ultimately we are given the promise of eternal life in heaven. In personally welcoming Jesus and entering into relationship with Him, we are reconciled not only to God but also to ourselves, others, and the world; we can start to live a new life of purpose as a disciple - an apprentice - of Jesus. God also invites us to be filled with the Holy Spirit; it is the Spirit who empowers us to become more like Jesus, to obey His will, to participate in the mission of God, and to build a just and righteous reflection of His kingdom here on earth - all in anticipation of the day when Jesus will return to make all things new!

Praying to Receive Jesus

If you’re ready to become a follower of Jesus and make Him the Lord and Saviour of your life, you can begin by praying the prayer below. In this moment, you are choosing to:

  • Admit your need for forgiveness and acknowledge that you have sinned.

  • Believe that Jesus Christ died for your sins and rose again to bring you into a restored relationship with God.

  • Confess that Jesus is the only way to God and commit yourself to following Him from this day forward.

If you’re ready to take this step, speak this prayer out loud with sincerity and faith:

“Jesus, I acknowledge that I have done wrong things and that my sin has separated me from you. But I believe you died for my sins and rose from the dead. Today I ask for your forgiveness and thank you for your gift of new life. I receive you as my Lord and Saviour. I choose relationship with you and I choose to live for you. Please come into my heart and change my life, now and forevermore. Amen.”

The Christian life isn’t always easy, but you will never face anything alone again. God is with you - in every moment, every season, every challenge. And now you’ve begun the most extraordinary adventure: building a relationship with Jesus Christ. Here are a few simple steps to help you get started:

Finding a church home: growing as a Christian happens best in community. A local church is a place to worship, learn, build friendships, discover your gifts, and be encouraged in your faith. Look for a church where you feel welcomed, challenged to grow, and equipped to live out your Christian life.

Building a daily habit of prayer: prayer is simply talking with God - sharing your heart, listening for His guidance, and learning to walk with Him. Don’t worry about getting the words right. Just be honest, open, and yourself.

Digging into the Bible: think of the Bible as God's instruction manual for life. Daily Bible reading or listening helps you understand who God is and how He calls us to live. You can download the Bible App (YouVersion) or visit bible.com for free access to multiple Bible translations.

Asking the Holy Spirit: as you read, ask the Holy Spirit to help you understand and apply what you’re hearing. If you’re new to the Bible, the Gospel of John is a great place to begin. Bible.com also offers excellent Bible reading plans, including Bible In One Year options.

Trying the Lectio 365 app: this free devotional app helps you slow down, reflect, and “pray the Bible” each day. It’s a simple, accessible way to build a rhythm of connecting with God.
